INGREDIENTS
- broken wheat – 3/4 cup
- moong dal – 1/4 cup
- water – 3 1/2 cup + 1/2 cup for jaggery
- ghee – 5 tablespoons
- milk – 1/2 cup
- jaggery – 1/2 cup
- cashew nuts – 10
Broken Wheat Pongal
Preparation
- Heat 2 teaspoon of ghee in a pressure cooker. Add the broken wheat rava and saute well for a few minutes. To this add dal with 31/2 cups of water. Pressure cook for 5 whistles. Turn off the flame and wait till the pressure subsides.
- Add grated jaggery and water into a bowl. Boil them until jaggery dissolves. Stir well until the jaggery dissolves completely. Strain the jaggery water to remove all the impurities.
- Add the jaggery syrup to the pressure cooked wheat and keep cooking.
- Cook for a few minutes until the jaggery water gets mixed well. Add 2 teaspoon of ghee at a time and keep cooking. Add in milk and keep cooking.
- Heat ghee in a pan. Add cashew nuts and saute until it becomes golden brown. Add the a pinch of cardamom powder to the wheat pongal.
- Delicious broken wheat sweet pongal is ready to EAT.
